Through the sister parish project, St. John the Baptist Catholic Community supports more than 1,850 elementary school children in 12 St. Pierre parish schools and 247 seventh through twelfth grade students at the Collége St. Jean Baptiste (2006-06).

St. John's parishioners contributed more than $18,000 to the annual sister parish collection in September 2004.

Nearly all of the annual collection funds go toward salaries and training for 52 elementary school teachers in St. Pierre parish. The rest goes toward—

  • School supplies and other educational resources.
  • Church and school repairs and construction.
  • Medicines and medical supplies.
  • Travel expenses for the pastor's visit to SJB and the visit of the director of social concerns to Haiti.
  • Shipping costs for donated goods and supplies.

Distinct from the annual collection is the SJB fund drive for the Collége St. Jean Baptiste secondary school in Baradères. A contribution of about $150 covers—

  • All salaries for teachers and staff
  • Daily student lunch, which for many students is the day's only reliable meal.
  • School supplies
